Coming soon... Royal Floria 2016

Royal Floria 2016 is coming up, running from 27th May to 4th June 2016 with the theme “Magical World of FLORIA”, and featuring the Chrysanthemum as the theme flower. We went to see how a friend was setting up the exhibit and had a chance to see how they set things up.

This year, the Magic of the Night returns to the site of Floria (ie no longer at Marina Putrajaya), which will make it easier for people to see it. The dancers were busy practicing their moves for the event in the evening.

We manage to see work done on the Candy Courtyard, which is one of the large exhibits in Floria. The work done on the display is amazing.

Another new thing for this year's Floria is the bonsai exhibition and competition by the Malaysian Bonsai and Suiseki Society. Many lovely specimens of bonsai will be on display at the Malaysia-China Friendship Pavillion.

Royal Floria 2015

The Royal Floria Putrajaya is still on until the 7th of June 2015. So two more days for those who had not see this event before. This years theme of Tapestry of Hues with lilies as the thematic flower was definitely much better than last year's sad attempt on Begonias.

Besides the usual beds and beds of Liliums and Hippeastrum lilies, there is a the Spring and Winter Garden, which requires an additional RM3 to get in. However, the comments from visitors were mixed, with some severely criticizing the lame attempt whilst others praised it as an added attraction for Floria.

So for those who had no plans for this weekend, why not drop by and give Floria 2015 a look.

Magic of the Night, Royal Floria 2015 and Penang Floral Fest 2015

It is a busy time of the month as there are a few events starting on this weekend. First of all, Magic of the Night will be held from 28th to 31st May at Putrajaya Marina (Precint 4). This event is free and showcases lighted, decorated boats as well as a fireworks show at the end of the parade. You can get a spot near the grandstand, or just find a cozy spot along the lake that faces the Putrajaya Marina (Pullman LakesideHotel) to enjoy the show. The show usually starts around 8.30ish and ends around 11.30pm.

Next is the Royal Floria Putrajaya 2015, at Anjung Floria, Putrajaya. This event will be held from 30th May till 7th June. The theme this year is Tapestry of Hues, featuring lilies. Entrance fees for Malaysian are RM1 for kids and RM 5 for adult, and RM5.00 and RM10 for foreign kid and adults respectively. There is also a Spring and Winter Garden showcase, which cost RM3 to enter.

In Penang, there is also a Floral Fest held at the Penang Botanical Garden, also running from 30th May till 7th June as well.

So those photo-snapping, selfie-junkies and plant-crazy people, don't miss out on these events.

Coming Soon - KL Orchid and Bonsai Show 2015

UPDATE: THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO AN UNKNOWN DATE IN AUGUST DUE TO THE ASEAN SUMMIT MEETING IN KL.

Just a little reminder for Flower Shows/Events this month, the KL Orchid and Bonsai Show 2015 is scheduled for 23 April 2015 - 26 April 2015. The venue is of course the KL Lake Gardens, or now known as Perdana Botanical Gardens.

MAHA 2014 - Big... Hot.. and Wet...

The Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Show (MAHA) 2014 is back again. There just two more days before the show ends on 30th Nov 2014. As usual, there isn't much info available on the net, so here's a little guide for those who still want to go and not get flustered with the trip.

If you wish to buy plants, fresh fruits or visit the main exhibition halls, then it is best to park at Entrance 1. They provide shuttle service at the entrance of each of the parking lots (some can be far away) to the entrance (called Laman Tiba 1). Then the rest are within walking distance.

If you still want to visit the other exhibits, do take the tram around or use the bus to go to Laman Tiba 2 (Entrance 2).

Now if you want to look at farm animals, cows, goats, chickens, quails, rabbits and sugargliders, then it is easier to park and enter through Entrance 2 (Laman Tiba 2). All these will be within walking distance. There are a few stalls selling plants and fruits, but the bulk are at Laman Tiba 1.

Things close to Laman Tiba 2: Pet cows, goats, and rabbits. See and buy farm equipments, learn about bird's nest farming.

The Jamnapari goat loves to be scratched hard. Eh, mcm kenal je muka budak lelaki tu dgn mak nyer, hehehe.

She likes to be scratched as well, and very friendly.

If you wish to see the Laman Padi (Paddy Field), Laman Nenas (Pineapple Field), Laman Perikanan (Fisheries exhibit - I would recommend this one), then it doesn't really matter which entrance you come in through, you would still need to take the tram or a combination of bus and tram.

For those dependent on public transport, do not fret for there is a free shuttle service to and from KTM Komuter train station in Serdang. The opening hours for the weekend is from 9am to 12midnight. Do remember to bring an umbrella, as it is either hot, wet or very confusing to first time visitors.

Lets go to Floria 2014 - Part 2

Here are a few more pics from Floria 2014 and Magic of the Night 2014. Remember that the two events are now at two distinct and separate location, and hence the need to move from one site to the other. For Floria, the site is hot and sunny, as mentioned in my previous post, so go armed with umbrellas and caps. Or come in the morning or later in the evening (hint - sunset is lovely).

You can also seek refuge in the air-conmditioned indoor pavilion and the school flower arrangement area (cooler air-conditioning).

For Magic of the Night, you can see the fireworks from Seri Gemilang Bridge or from the grandstand of the Kompleks Sukan Air Putrajaya. However, the floats will be quite a distance away. To see the floats up close, either go to the public viewing area for Magic of the Night or the areas marked with red arrows just down from the Marina Putrajaya. Fireworks are only on the 14th, 20th, 21st and 22nd of June.

The Magic of the Night is now at Marina Putrajaya, which is quite a distance away from the Floria site, and the floats DO NOT go past the Floria site.
